VPA holds roadshow-cum-workshop ahead of India Maritime Week

A roadshow-cum-workshop titled ”PORTCON-2025” and themed “Shaping Maritime Narrative for Economic Development through Policy, Research and Coordination” for the forthcoming India Maritime Week (IMW) 2025, was organised by the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA), in Visakhapatnam on Friday (September 19, 2025).

Chairperson of VPA M. Angamuthu welcomed the guests including N. Sridhar, Principal Commissioner of Customs and Central Goods and Services Tax, Animesh Bharti, Senior Economic Advisor, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) and Mrityunjay Jha, Director, MoPSW for the roadshow and also the grand India Maritime Week scheduled to be held in Mumbai from October 27 to 31.

He emphasised the significance of this global maritime congregation, in which over 1 lakh delegates representing over 100 countries were expected to participate.

Mr. Mruthanjeya Jha spoke about the five Legislative Acts-2025 passed in the Parliament which would transform the Maritime Sector as a whole. Later, he made a presentation on the Indian Maritime Sector explaining the significance and importance of ViBhAS and NAVIC cells in making the Indian Maritime one of the major contributions to the India’s economy.

Mr. Sridhar emphasised that oceans were the wealth of the country and said that this sector was the future of economic growth of the nation and reiterated that all the stakeholders work hand-in-hand in transforming the sector to higher levels.

Mr. Animesh Bharati enunciated the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Amritkal-2047”, the NAVIC – cells 15, 21, its implementation and the mechanism, the economic policy decisions, structural functions, regulations and financial implication for the projects and sustainability as a whole.

The PORTCON-2025 roadshow was aimed to showcase Visakhapatnam as a city of prominence and exponential growth in the maritime sector, while generating nationwide support for the India Maritime Week’s success. Through comprehensive presentations on participation and exhibition opportunities, thematic dialogue sessions by ViBhas and NAVIC cells, and extensive networking among port authorities, shipping corporations, and maritime institutions, the event reinforced India’s commitment to maritime excellence and economic development, according to a statement issued by VPA Secretary T. Venu Gopal.

The roadshow concluded with shared determination to make India Maritime Week – 2025 a significant success, which would further solidify India’s standing in the worldwide maritime industry.

VPA Deputy Chairperson Durgesh Kumar Dubey proposed a vote of thanks.
